Las impresoras son un negocio como otro cualquiera y así debe de ser. Pero una cosa es hacer negocio y otra es robar a la cara. Diez metros cúbicos de tinta, poco más de 6 botellas de agua de 1,5 litros, no pueden valer más que un Renault Clio.

Un usuario, se enfrenta a cartuchos que no terminan de vaciarse, impresoras que tienen que ser desechadas porque unas almohadillas internas se han colmatado de tinta, actualizaciones que bloquean los cartuchos compatibles de terceros y así, un largo etcétera.

Los grandes fabricantes de impresoras HP, EPSON, CANON, BROTHER y SAMSUNG deben de pensar que los usuarios somos tontos y que en este planeta hay más tontos que botellines en un supermercado.

La Epson EcoTank ET-2600 es una impresora 3 en 1 de chorro de tinta, que imprime solo por una cara. Otro detallito con lo que nos obsequia Epson. La tinta es importante, pero el papel también y por respeto al planeta, no se deberían fabricar impresoras que solo impriman a una cara. ¿Qué le pasa a la otra cara? ¿No es lo suficientemente buena como para que la podamos aprovechar? además de imprimir, la Epson EcoTank ET-2600 también hace fotocopias y escanea.

De serie incluye cuatro botellas de tinta de 70 ml de capacidad: negro, cian, amarillo y magenta, con los que habrá que cargar los depósitos de tinta integrados correspondientes. Echo de menos, que el equipo disponga de un par de colores más y que fuese capaz de imprimir fotografías con una calidad aceptable. Con estos cuatro colores, se puede imprimir en papel fotográfico, pero el resultado no es el deseado. Otro punto criticable, es la incapacidad de imprimir hasta el borde del papel. Epson tiene tecnología y de hecho tiene otros modelos que imprime hasta el borde del papel y a doble cara, pero que no te lo da en este modelo, porque no les sale del escroto a los Japoneses. Y esto les pasa a todos los fabricantes de impresoras, todos tienen la capacidad de ofrecernos un modelo de máquina que imprima a doble cara, hasta el borde del papel y con calidad fotográfica, pero estas características no te las proporcionan, sencillamente porque no quieren ofrecer a sus clientes un aparato completo a un precio de adquisición de máquina y de consumibles justo. El modelo de negocio actual, en el que la tinta es más cara que un coche, es con el que se sienten más cómodos.

Lo habitual es comunicarse con la impresora Epson EcoTank ET-2600 mediante el estándar inalámbrico Wi-Fi. Imprimir desde una computadora es coser y cantar, pero desde el iPhone o el iPad la canción es diferente. Para esta tarea, Epson te tiene preparada otra sorpresita, la EcoTank ET-2600 no es compatible con AirPrint. Para poder imprimir desde el iPhone o el iPad, tendrás que descargarte una aplicación gratuita propia de Epson llamada iPrint. Cuando adquirí la impresora, ni se me pasó por la cabeza, que tendría que usar un protocolo distinto a AirPrint para hacer uso del aparato desde el móvil.

Ponte en situación, tienes la impresora operativa, compras las botellas a un precio razonable y una mañana anodina Epson decide que la impresora tiene que morir porque el modelo de negocio no le parece razonable. Con dejar de actualizar su aplicación para el móvil, ya lo tendría hecho, estaría clavando una lanza en las tripas de tu impresora, y desde ese momento la dejaría herida de muerte, igual que los gorrinos en San Martín.

Las impresoras son un aparato imprescindible, de la misma forma que lo es un lápiz, pero es un aparato que da guerra a lo largo de su vida útil. Esta EcoTank ET-2600 es la forma camuflada en la que Epson intenta lavar su nombre, pero se guarda un par de regalitos oscuros, para que cuando estime oportuno, la pueda enterrar a 5 metros bajo el suelo.
